Physician - Radiology (Mammography Chief)
Major Duties: The physician filling this position will primarily serve as a the Lead Interpreting Physician for breast imaging. In that role, the incumbent will organize and administer the entire breast imaging program, including screening mammography, diagnostic mammography, breast ultrasonography, stereotactic and other routine breast procedures, and breast MRI. The incumbent will provide oversight for the breast imaging technologists. The incumbent will ensure compliance with both national regulations, such as the Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA), as well as internal Veterans Affairs (VA) metrics. These include, but are not limited to appropriate quality control and ensuring access of breast imaging services for Veterans. The incumbent will be the primary interpreter of mammography at the facility.
The Radiologist will also actively participate in the non-clinical activities that are expected of Radiologists. These include, but are not limited to, serving as a Modality Champion, running interdisciplinary tumor boards, educating technologists, and participating in hospital committees. The scope of such activities may change over the radiologist's career.
The radiologist may participate in the Diagnostic Radiology call pool, as designated by departmental policies. The Radiologist must maintain proficiency and capacity to perform and interpret all forms of examinations that might be performed on call.
WORK SCHEDULE: Part-time vacancies - Day Shift, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday; possibly extended hours to include early morning, evening or weekend.
Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

2. Have a degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting for a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are:
- Schools of medicine holding regular institutional membership in the Association of American Medical Colleges for the year in which the degree was granted.
- Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the American Osteopathic Association for the year the degree was granted.
- Schools (including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e. Puerto Rico), or in the District of Columbia as qualifying for full or unrestricted licensure.
3. Must possess and maintain current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
4. Completion of a first-year residency, or its equivalent, approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which it was completed.
5. Meet the physical standards outlined in VA Directive and Handbook 5019. This will be evidenced by completion of a pre-employment physical.
6. As this a direct patient care position, physician selected must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 USC 7402(d) and 7407(d).
7. Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: A pre-placement physical examination will be completed prior to appointment to determine the physical and mental fitness of candidates. The examination will be concerned with the mental and physical ability of teh applicant to satisfactorily perform the duties of the proposed assignment and will include requisite laboratory and other screening as required by Federal regulatory agencies. Applicants must have the mental and physical ability to perform core privileges required by the specialty position in addition to any specialty privileges requested.

Receiving Service Credit for Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee.
