The USDA Forest Service has legislative authority to recruit and fill Permanent (Career/Career-Conditional), Temporary, and Term Appointments under the USDA Demonstration Project. Under this authority, any U.S. citizen may apply.

This position is located in the Albuquerque Service Center, Budget & Finance (ASC-B&F), and a component of the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Deputy Chief area.

The primary purpose of this position is to serve as the Assistant Director, reporting to the Director of ASC-B&F, with the responsibility for implementing, operating, and maintaining a single integrated financial information system that is responsive to user and customer needs. The position provides overall leadership and supervision to subordinate supervisors and employees.

Development of policies and procedures as needed to facilitate meeting the bureau and agency goals as directed by higher authority

Supervision/EEO, Civil Rights Responsible for managing, planning, implementing, monitoring, evaluating, and operating the financial management systems that supports the administration segment of the Forest Service and all its organizations

 Makes decisions based on input/support from external groups, Congress, State and local representatives

Establishes long range plans and schedules requiring exceptional coordination and integration of a number of very important and complex Budget and Finance segments

Maintains a continuing evaluation of the Budget and Finance program to assure that objectives are met and that policies are applied

One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-14 grade level. Examples of specialized experience are: planned, executed, and monitored major Budget and Finance program segments which are of national scope; served as an expert consultant to top level management as well as to other interest groups who are seeking critical evaluation and advice on complex and persistent problems which require long-range solutions; exercised direct program responsibilities that included regional or state-wide program development, planning, budgeting, and identifying workforce and organizational needs to establish and meet priorities.

This position requires completion of a three-year probationary period in accordance with the USDA Demonstration Project Authority. During this time period, employee's conduct and performance will be monitored in order to determine if employee will be retained.
